Cinnamon Applesause Ornaments Tutorial

I got this recipe and in instructions here but I thought it would be nice to have visual steps too.

What you'll need:
  • 1 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 1 cup cinnamon
  • one bottle cheap school glue
  • a bowl
  • plastic food wrap
  • rolling pin
  • parchment paper
  • spoon for stirring
  • cookie cutters or knife
  • a straw
  • and thin ribbon for hanging
I put the glue in hot water to make it pour easier (I also did not feel like measuring out 1/4 cup like the original recipe said so I just used the whole thing). Mix everything in a bowl until you have a dough.

It should be about the consistency of sugar cookie dough. (I am impatient and did not wait the hour with the plastic wrap over it like the recipe said to.)

Then take some plastic wrap, place a sheet on either side of your dough and roll out until 1/4 to 1/8 inch thick. (I rolled mine on a cookie sheet because my table is tile and would leave lines in the dough.)

Then place your cookie cutters on the dough and press out your shapes. (Perfect job for little hands :)

Place all your cut out ornaments on parchment paper. Take your straw and punch holes for your ribbon.

Now you can do it 2 different ways. You can air dry like the original recipe said on cookie drying racks for 3 days turning every 6-8 hours, OR if your in a hurry place them on the parchment paper on a cookie sheet and back at 200 degrees for 2-3 hours, turning over every 30 minutes or so (we baked ours;).

Let them cool and add your ribbon ties (some shrinking will occur). Now you have some easy gifts that are sure to make the holidays smell delicious!
